If you are leaving from DC on a weekday, you need to leave around 5:45 am or wait to 9 or 10am to avoid rush hours in DC, Baltimore and New York. There will be some as you cross Delaware if you leave at 545, but it is the least. Get to the first or second rest stop on the New Jersey turnpike- then get out run the kids around and everyone gets a potty break. Then you can take a break somewhere in CT for lunch. I agree that Portsmouth NH is a good target for the first night.[/quote]
