I live around Tysons and commute to Arlington (Crystal City). Today there was a 15 min delay on GW Parkway just due to the sheer number of commuters. I noticed Waze has a feature where they match drivers and riders. I signed up to check it out, trying to see how active/useful this thing is. I'm hoping to pick up a rider so we can use 66 HOV lanes free instead. But there are surprisingly few reviews of this thing for DC area even though it's been available for a year in DMV. I started googling and there's a Uber commute feature thing too. Both seem to give a few dollars, but my primary incentive is to avoid traffic and to make my commute less boring. wonder if that's more active for my commuting route? Anyone use either? Any comments? I'm a female driver and might start out picking up just female riders. To sign up as a driver, Uber does a background check on me, but Waze did not even require that. Also, what happens if I'm in a car accident while I have a rider? Because it gives me a few bucks (I think 54 cents per mile or something) what does that do for insurance purposes? If I refuse pay, would it be ok? St first I got excited about using 66 (since from Tysons, the variable tolls can be $28-45 ONE way to use it) but now I'm having all kinds of questions. Thanks!
