DS rejected. Surprised. Not shocked. Would have understood deferral but not rejection. Full pay good ECs.
Did they apply to both, Emory and Oxford? What was his stats? Also, I'm sorry to hear this, how hard is he taking it?
Pretty hard but moving on. Only Emory. Didn't want Oxford despite me saying to do so. ACT 32 (would be 33 if superscored but they don't). GPA below their average. No URM but heck a lot of ECs. Expected at least deferred.
Sorry, but my DS was rejected ED last year to both Emory and Oxford with similar scores/grades and very good ECs. Had a 33 ACT. It's all a crap shoot these days. If a kid has a real "hook" then they have a better chance whether it is extremely strong leadership or hardship. Your kid will land fine even if they are very disappointed. By the way, I know a several kids from my other child's graduating class a few years ago who were able to transfer into the school that they really wanted after a year or two. I don't if it's true, but all of the parents said that it is easier to get in as a transfer if your child has done well at their current school than as a freshman.
