You are allowed to be sad. You are also allowed not to move. If you like where you live, and are sad to leave it, I would pay attention to that feeling. The only place I was ever truly sad to leave (and we did it for commuting reasons) was a big mistake. Local moves are expensive and stressful. The stress is often minimized because "It's just a little ways" and "You can always go visit the people you really like" Make sure that the amenities you want exist in the new location. A short commute won't do you any good if there is nothing you and your kid want to do when you get home. If you want to take your kid to the park, make sure there is a park you both like. Not all parks are created equal, both in terms of what you can do there and of who hangs out there. The park near our mistake house (the one we moved to for a shorter commute) was only frequented by people who were looking after children when the children's parents were in court. There was no rest-room and no sandbox. The park wasn't bad, but it wasn't a place where you'd go to make friends or even really play with other kids. The kids that we saw there were so stressed and traumatized that they weren't really interested in playing with my kid. If you do move, make sure you love the area. I have a friend who moved for her husband's commute. She truly hates her house, as well as the lack of amenities. She lives 3 miles from me. Make sure you do your research so that you love where you live. Had we moved a few miles in a different direction, it's possible the mistake house/move wouldn't been so bad. Please pay attention to your emotions and what they may be trying to tell you. You may have to do a lot of things in life, and some sadness can't and shouldn't be avoided, but sadness stemmed from an optional move is worth thinking about.
