If you are a fed and considering Aetna, take a look at their birth coverage. For the PPO option, they are making you pay 10% of costs while other plans cover everything. that could erase the savings offered by the negotiated rate - particularly if you have any complications I know it seems like putting the cart before the horse to look at birth coverage, but I would still factor it into your calculus.
I saw this. Terrible coverage. If SG honors the FET rate, I plan to enroll in the Aetna plan and schedule the FET for late May. I’ll switch over to BCBS during open season next year to have BCBS insurance in 2021 to cover the birth.
Obviously things can change from year to year, but as someone who has Aetna open access HMO, where it says, for example, inpatient is 10%, I just had a bad D&C and massive blood transfusion at Sibley and ended up only being charged $45 (plus ER visit copay). I think it’s 10% of the negotiated rate that Aetna gets, not like the $10,000 that they actually charge. Again, I could be completely wrong, but we have been surprisingly very happy with Aetna’s (technically non-maternity but equivalent coverage rates)
