That sounds like a great plan!  For us personally with little kids, travel is SO much easier when we're tackling it together that I don't think we'd do the one-parent overnights until the kids are older, but you're inspiring me to think about planning full-day adventures with the kids 1 on 1 and one parent/two kids.
