My kids have all appreciated it. They enjoyed showing me their lockers, cafeteria, classrooms. It shows the teachers they have family support, too. I stopped going when my oldest said he preferred I not go -- in high school.

My 6th grader liked having a parent there.  Liked showing me around.  Agree that it shows teachers that the parents are involved.

The two PPs are rude.  We are actually in a really diverse school, and it's interesting, because all the 'white' parents are worried about embarrassing their kids.  But, the families from other cultures (African, Latinx) don't even give it a thought.  The parents come, sometimes with younger siblings.
