I do not think 2 similar cars are bad at all.  I wouldn't get two super small cars b/c we have 2 kids and expect that we will take them to college and that we will want to haul things from time to time.  So, two small SUVs (CR-v/Rav4/etc) are perfectly fine for us.

I think each car should be chosen to fit its user/uses... and then to complement the other car if the other care is a limited use vehicle.  Nothing wrong with having two very useful, very similar sized vehicles.[/quote]

Agreed - we went the opposite route and have one medium/large SUV and one very small electric car - so just one car for inclement weather. But... who cares! [/quote]
