There are limited slots—480. But FCPS is different from other jurisdictions. They choose the top kids. But LCPS, APS, etc. have a hard cap on the number of kids they will pay tuition for. Not true, there are 480 slots. There are kids in FCPS who are qualified but are not accepted because the vetting process decided some kids are more qualified. But the number of finalists is always higher then the number of available slots. I am not sure how the seats would be shifted around if Loundon and APS decided that they wanted to send more kids.

That is not going to be an issue, Loundon and APS seem to be moving towards no longer supporting kids attending TJ which will open more slots for FCPS. And even with that there will be kids who are finalists who do not make it into TJ.[/quote]

Did you read the post you are responding to?  Even the first sentence?  It say the EXACT THING you say is “not true”.

All jurisdictions together can send 480 kids.  All jurisdictions except FCPS have an additional cap, because their school boards pass budgets saying they will only pay tuition for X niumner of Atlanta seats.

Say, LCPS has funds for 60 slots for class of 2025 (IDK the exact number— seems like 50-80 per class). If 90 LCPS kids are in the top 480, the bottom 30 will not get seats. (But I would assume would waitlist so TJ’s they can take an LCPS seat if it is turned down).  Those seats will be filled by the next 30 kids on the list who aren't LCPS.  FCPS has no such cap.

Theoretically, all 480 admits could be FCPS. Of course, that won’t happen. But, it’s possible. It’s not possible for all 480 slots to come from LCPS, APS, etc.

OP— look at it this was— TJ is desperately trying to diversify in terms of SEs and race. They always have about 10% AA, Hispanic, FARMs apply. And less than 2% of each demographic admitted. It there were quotas, the Non-white/ Hispanic , low SES numbers wouldn’t suck.  Similarly, there are always more boys than girls, even though many qualified girls are turned down. This year was better, but most years it’s about 60/40.
