Thanks for replying! I agree, it will be tough for her at higher level math at TJ (if she gets in) but she enjoys Algebra more than Geometry and is looking forward to learning Algebra II. She is glad she is done with Geometry. We didn't want her to to take summer geometry but she insisted. I wish FCPS doesn't allow kids to do summer math. How do they expect kids to learn everything in 5-6 weeks that they would otherwise learn in a year. Hope A- in two subjects is not a problem when applying to TJ. We are worried about that as she would like to get admitted to TJ. That's our main concern.
I would just caution that around 85% of applicants are not going to get into TJ. I remember going to a meeting at our middle school, and the teacher warned that not getting into TJ can throw smart kids for a loop and send them into depression, because they’ve never faced rejection before. When you talk about her application, be sure to add that getting in is pretty difficult and no sure thing, and play up the fact that her base school has some amazing options. Also stress that she will have more time to explore extra curriculars if she has a shorter commute. And if you read this forum, you’ll see plenty of parents discussing how college admissions at TJ are tricky when you’re competing against your classmates who are superstars. This is from a parent of one TJ kid and one non-TJ kid.
