OP 06:12 - My understanding is that if DC does not qualify for AAP, they would be in the Gen Ed class at the center. Is this incorrect? Can we not register at the AAP center as a base school? Yes, if you live in the center's catchment area, that is automatically your base school and your child would be in the gen ed classrooms if they do not qualify for Level 4 services. It sounds like you think that even if your child doesn't qualify for AAP, they would be better off surrounded by "like-minded" kids in the Level 4 classes. I'm not sure what you mean by that. I've taught upper elementary for over 10 years, and kids are kids wherever you go. In terms of not wanting to switch schools, I can understand that. Personally, I'd choose the place that makes your family happy as a home. If your kid does have to switch schools, that's a blip on the radar and will be forgotten in a week once it's done. But your home is where you eat, sleep and live every single day. That is way more important than being in-bounds for an AAP center. Step back and look at the big picture. Family life > AAP center 06:28 - yes. 07:49- The class size was 18. The selected kids had to get 98% in 1 nationally normed IQ test + 98% in 1 national Achievement test to directly qualify. Or get 95% or above each in 2 IQ tests+ 1 Achievement test. 08:13 - I don’t 100% know DC would get selected for AAP but I think there is a good chance. I thought a center will have more similarly minded peers. I also don’t want to change schools if selected for AAP. There are so many ES choices it is confusing what to do
