Any insight into the changes for ECNL or DA regions for the DMV area next year. ECNL is losing team in Southwest (including Tophat). DA is gaining 5 teams in the East, but don't know if they are headed to Northeast or Atlantic division. Any other changes in the landscape coming?
I thought a Long Island team or two were getting the boot from DA and going to ECNL. Some of the new NE DA teams will likely replace the departed. Tophat is all in with DA at this point. Some Texas teams left ECNL after returning for a year just to go back to DA. Real Colorado left ECNL to stay in DA. The pendulum swung back a bit towards DA's side. The giant SoCal departures from DA never materialized and likely wont with the expansion of DPL in that region, Texas and the South East. ECNL seems to be watering its brand down a bit by converting their NPLs to "regional ECNL" without a clearer picture of potential promotion relegation.
The teams that are being dropped from DA (Alby and Empire) are not moving in to ECNL. SSS in MA is joining DA. The ECNL regional league is just a re-naming of the existing NPL leagues that the ECNL clubs play in anyway (for example, Northeast Girls NPL becomes Northeast ECNL Regional). The only difference is that teams that win their division will gain entry into the lowest division of the ECNL national showcase. In the northeast, ECNL definitely remains the stronger league--NYCFC won't have GDA, so their players will mostly move back to ECNL at World Class. FC Stars and PDA dropped GDA after one year. Replacing them with Seacoast United and STA is not making GDA stronger. I can tell by your post that you are a GDA cheerleader, but it really just depends what part of the country you are in as to which league is stronger.
