Don't bring him to daycare and then confuse him. FWIW, I dog-sit all the time. Dogs love me, and know that I love them. But their limit is two weeks. No joke, they get sad right at the two-week mark and kind of mope around. They're fine, and they rally, but they think you're not coming back after two weeks.
See this is why I am having an issue with my family overseas! DH works in a war zone right now, and two teens and I are going to visit this summer. When I told them that this time it will be very hard to stay longer because of my DOG as A. doggy care is expensive and B. it is unfair to my dog to be in a kennel for over 2 weeks, they had a fit! "why are you paying all this money for such a short time?" Well, in the past DH or older DS stayed to work and be with the dog, this time, we are all going for religious ceremony and I am fed up with their attitude. It is a living creature that I am responsible for, that's it.
How long is your trip? How long does your family want you to stay? Would you want to stay longer if not for the dog?
Yes, possibly, but kennel is expensive and my dog is a golden that is scared of other dogs. I am also doing research for my grad school there. What would you recommend?
