2016 Subaru Legacy 2.5i premium.   $12500   88k miles

2011 Honda Element EX.     $11k    130k miles.

The Subaru’s have AWD (which is a feature we would like but not need) and the Honda Element I had to include because it’s so cute and practical.

This is insane. Why would you need to buy used car for this much if you can buy easily brand new car with zero millage:
Here, just go to cars.com enter your zip code, go all brands, put maximum price 10000 and see what comes up

I found tons of brand new cars for that much and less.. I would much rather have a brand new car because it comes with warranty and
it can last for years.

New car bits new car almost always. Except if would be super low millage great expensive car that you can buy for peanuts which happens like never. In your case all your cars have so much millage on them that you can expect high maintenance costs.
