I'm a mom who has had two c-sections and I have done a fair amount of trapeze post-kids.  For the beginning tricks like the knee hang, you don't actually need much strength.  It is all about LISTENING and timing.  If you do as instructed WHEN instructed, gravity will be working in your favor and it will be simple to lift up your legs and hook them on the bar because you will be almost weightless.  If you try to lift your legs early or late, gravity will be working against you so you'll have to try to muscle it (often by trying to do a pull up on the bar which is totally unnecessary).  Beginner adults often overthink, anticipate and try to use their muscles when you don't need to.  If you perform the knee hang as instructed, even someone not in good shape should have very little muscle soreness.  The upper body soreness often is the result of trying to lift your body up to the bar, which is a common mistake.  Just listen and have fun.

At TSNY, you never know who will be in your group.  It could be advanced people (doing different tricks, obviously).  I've found that the advanced people are almost always very supportive of newbies in their group.  They only get annoyed with newbies if they waste time by not being ready when it is their turn or don't climb when they are supposed to climb.  However, it is really fun to do it with a friend or two, which also may make you feel more comfortable.
