My problem is generalized anxiety that occasionally becomes a real issue for me when things build up. My doctor initially gave me an antidepressant (Wellbutrin) but I hated how I felt on that, and I gained weight, which only made me feel worse! Now once a year my doctor gives me a prescription for Xanax to take "as needed". It works like a re-set button for me. My doctor gives me a 30-day prescription of .5mg that can be filled 3x. I've never come anywhere close to using all that. At this point I take it on maybe 5-10 occasions over the course of the entire year when I'm feeling especially edgy. The rest of the time my family just needs to deal with me as I am! A few things about Xanax. It can be addicting, so if you feel like you need to take something every day, it may not be the answer for you. It's really bad to combine with alcohol. You shouldn't drive on it.
I agree with this. Sometimes I just need an Ambien for a good night sleep or a Klonopin for a good night sleep plus a positive attitude the next morning. I probably take 10 each a year. I’ve previously been on Prozac (for years) and I like this combination better.
