Anyone have any experience with either of these camps? I’m not from DC and my son is coming in the summer to visit. Which camp would you recommend? He’s 12 and skilled. Looking for really good training. Please feel free to recommend others. Thanks.
I recommend Maryland’s elite ID camp very highly. We are returning this year. The skill level is very high. The coaches are the Maryland players, who were all elite youth players and really excellent with kids. My son went to a couple of their games this year and enjoyed saying hi to his former coaches. The camp’s hours are very long, and after dinner, the boys go out and watch the Maryland players scrimmage. It is a really good atmosphere. Very competitive but very nice at the same time. The evaluations are fairly detailed and were really accurate with respect to my son.
This is great. Thank you. How do they put the kids in groups? Do they watch them play on the first day? Also, how many kids go to the camp? Thanks My son was in younger age groups. 9-10. They were essentially lumped together. There was some variation in talent but nobody was obviously inferior. I imagine that some super talented kids may move up an age group and perhaps less skilled bigger players may move down a group. There were probably 20-25 kids in my sons age group and perhaps 200-250 overall.
Thank you very much. This is so helpful. Any chance you’ve done an DC United Camp?
Only day camps. Highly variable. But overnight camps for older kids are probably a lot better with kids more committed and experienced.
