I just looked at the new X7. I have been anticipating this SUV because it has a third row and captain's chairs. I thought it would be a great alternative to a Suburban or large SUV and minivan. I was disappointed to see that the arm rests in the captains chairs almost touch each other. A child or anyone can not go through the captain's chairs to get to third row. The only way to get to third row is to fold forward the middle seat ( much like an x5 with a third row). I wish some company would make an SUV with 3 rows that has captain's chairs in the second row that isn't huge like a suburban. I also don't understand why BMW made this larger SUV if it isn't designed for families. Who is going to buy it?
The car has to be huge to have this feature. Just get a mini-van.
if there were no armrests then it would be perfect. kids don't need armrests! unfortunately they can not be removed and you can not get them without armrests.
trust me, if you or you husband were mechanically inclined, you could remove the armrest. but whats the point of captains chairs if you don't have an armrest. As a passenger that would suck.
my goal of captain's chairs is so there is a path to the third row. not to rest my arms. You wouldn't have arm rests if it were a bench seat. If you don't have kids then I see that arm rests would be great. my kids won't know the difference though. But we will all know the difference when trying to fold up the middle seat for them to climb into the third row. Especially if younger kids are in car seats. It just doesn't work if you have more than 2 kids. Otherwise I'm sure it's a wonderful car! I had hopes of it being our family car.
