My youngest daughter is in the third grade, and at the start of the current school year her teacher told the class that if they read 10 books by the winter break that they would be given a reward of some sort in the form of a party or similar function. The children met that reading requirement and they requested that they be given a pool party. The teacher made arrangements to use a nearby high school's pool last Friday. The teacher asked for two of the mothers and two of the fathers who are able to swim to volunteer to go to the pool with her to help supervise the children in the pool and locker rooms. I was one of the two mothers that volunteered to assist the teacher for the pool party. After the swim party was over the teacher and the other mom and myself entered the girls locker room. The teacher told all of the girls that they should shower off for at least five minutes in the showers. The showers in the locker room were "shower trees" which is a number of different shower heads that are in a circle on a poll in the middle. So the showers were out in the open of the locker room with no privacy. The teacher did NOT specify whether the girls should shower in their swimsuits or in the nude. All but 3 out of the 12 girls showered in the nude by their own choosing, the other 3 girls kept their swimsuits on. The other mom that was there to help supervise the children took her swimsuit off to shower. I figured that if the other mom and most of the girls were showering in the nude by their own choosing, that there was no harm in me doing the same. After I took my swimsuit off the teacher asked the other mom and myself if we thought that it was alright for her to shower in the nude as well, or if we thought that some parents might be upset if it got back to them. We said that we didn't see any harm in it, so the teacher also showered in the nude. Truth be told, it was obvious that several of the girls did take notice of the fact that their teacher was nude. But after a few quick glances and a few giggles they just went back to talking among themselves. That was on Friday of last week. So on Monday of this week we found out that the single father of one of the girls from the class is upset that his daughter had showered in the nude in front of the other girls, and he's especially upset that the teacher had showered nude in the presence of the girls. The other mom and myself made separate calls to the girls father and we explained to him that his daughter showered nude by her own choosing, and that we had told the teacher that we found nothing wrong with the teacher showering nude as well. The teacher is in her second year of teaching, and she's an extremely nice and caring young woman that all of the children love. We think that we were able to talk the father down from some of his anger? I'm just curious to hear feedback from some of you parents as to whether this mans anger is warranted, or if he's making a big deal out of nothing?
