DD is in kindergarten and goes to a small K-8 private school. Every morning is a huge battle because she doesn’t like wearing socks with shoes, which are required. She has to wear navy socks with white shoes. Otherwise, she loves the school. It is mostly the socks she has an issue with. I’ve spent a small fortune on socks and can’t find anything she likes, including sensory friendly socks from Amazon. Should I go ahead an ask for an accommodation by the school (for her to wear no socks)? Or any other ideas? She is fine when she gets to school and has the socks on, but the mornings are killing us trying to get her to put on her socks and shoes.
This is a power and control issue, not a sensory issue. Your daughter is old enough to put on her own socks. Hand them to her. It's her responsibility to have socks on her feet when she gets to school. Since she likes school and wants to go, they have to be on her feet. It's a typical age 5 issue if she's fine in school. Sensory issues do not stop at home.
