But for a range of reasons, that’s the best week for us to go away, if there’s no school.)[/quote] I'd call both schools and ask whether there are orientation activities the week before school starts (whenever that is). BASIS usually has an event during that week for parents and students to come by and get locks for lockers, their schedules and learn about extracurriculars. It's optional (if you don't go the logistics will be handled on the first day) but can be a good way to help kids acclimate. As for the first day, I would imagine both schools will hold off on their calendar announcements until DCPS finalizes the rest of its calendar.[/quote]
