There were several posters who said that anyone not voting for Ben Jealous were racist. Their entire point was that it was incumbent upon the MD electorate to vote for the first black governor of the state over all other reasons. If there are people who were only voting for Ben Jealous because he was black and not based on his merit as a candidate or his political party, why wouldn't there be those (maybe the same ones) who would vote for Alsobrooks because she is black. And a woman to boot, so the first black governor and the first female governor of the state in one package. It's not affirmative action, but it is voting for the candidate to get the first governor of two minorities with one win.[/quote]
