" No one gets into college because they're an Eagle Scout. My DC got into VTech Engineering with one and borderline grades. How did he get in with borderline grades? My nephew had stats above the 75% and was rejected, and he is in state." Students with borderline grades need to bring something else to the table. Eagle rank certainly gets piled on the table. My DS got into 7 out of 7 engineering schools he applied to all with borderline grades and scores. While none of the schools was as stat centric (read large) as VTech engineering, some were as highly ranked. In my son's case, it wasn't the Eagle rank, exactly. Our troop has about 6 of those every year, and most people know the amount of work to earn Eagle can (and should) vary greatly. My son is the Boy Scout's Boy Scout. His leadership in the troop will be felt for years to come. He learned how to do that through the Eagle process. The recommendation his Scoutmaster (also an engineer) wrote explained what my son's leadership would likely do for the close knit atmosphere of a small engineering school cohort.
