Divorced 40 year old female here. Trying to do the old fashioned way to meet a man. It is a bit awkward sitting at a bar alone .... But I like the music and the drinks are good
Bars have to be the most depressing places on earth. Let your friends know you would like to meet someone. Assuming they have brothers, cousins, neighbors, male friends, guys they know at work.
Only do this if you trust the friend's taste...often you are served up on a platter to someone that is barely compatible.
It's safest to do these when they aren't "fix-ups" per se. If a friend has someone she might like for you, she can just invite you both to the same group event. And she shouldn't tell both of you beforehand that she thinks you might like each other. That leads to awkwardness both in your interactions and if one of you is interested and the other not. She can tell one of you or neither of you that she thinks you might be a fit, then put you in the same place and leave you to your own devices. Also, FWIW I wouldn't go the "bar alone" route. I'm a single female as well and if you don't want to go the online route I'd suggest Meetup groups, and activities - scotch tastings, craft brewing events, volunteering, coed sports.
And golf - which is mostly men.
