it is a poor country and you can see that outside of the resort.  we usually bring some little chocolate--for example, kisses or those Dove ones, and leave handfuls with a tip for room housekeeping, bartenders, etc--they love the candy and take it for their kids.  we've also brought school supplies to donate to schools in the area.

we love that you get pretty beaches and mountains in the distance.  I think it makes for a gorgeous setting.  it feels less 'generic' than, say, Mexico (at least the parts where we've been) or the Bahamas.[/quote]
