Of course it's okay to reach out! That's what it is there for. I've had plenty of "Hey I'd like to chat about the position" type conversations. I don't think it's called "informational interviews" really anymore, but with the glut of information available it's more of a "does this role/company fit within my goals/experience" type thing. This may vary by industry, but overall it's totally common to message the people who are listed as the contact for a job. Good luck!
Thank you PP! If you don't mind a follow up question: is it better to contact the HR/recruiter, or directly contact the person who would be the department head? Is THAT kosher or not really done? The GC (this is a legal position) shared the posting, and the posting specifically says it involves working closely with that person. Would reaching out directly be to my advantage, or is that discouraged? Thank you once again...I'm so not up on the proper etiquette here!
