my kids' orthotics are 100% custom made.
How successful have they been? What kind of orthotics do you have?
DP. I've been wearing custom orthotics since my 20s. Because of the nature of my issues, semi-custom don't provide sufficient support/correction. My youngest started out with custom orthotics at 2. My older 2 kids were fine with semi-custom (from Shoe Train) from about ages 4-12. One kid doesn't need them any more and the other has moved to custom. What you and/or your kid requires really depends on their issues and the knowledge of the service provider. Our podiatrists had never heard of the semi-custom orthotics we had. My orthotist and orthopedist had and were good about identifying the right choice. In hindsight, I would never get my orthotics from a podiatrist again unless that podiatrist was part of a practice that had an onsite orthotist and/or orthopedist.
Thank you so much. This confirms my instinct this morning when we saw a podiatrist. He wrote us a scrip for SMOs and I have an appointment at an Orthotic Center. I am glad I did not let him make them - I also don't think he knows kids that well. My DH wanted to let him make them but I insisted on getting them from the OC. Thank you thank you thank you.
