Everyone has their own personal end times, so I suppose it's like preparing for death - except everyone will be dead -- no will to be written.

And in many ways, they were kind of right in that usually in times when that "end times" rhetoric heightens, it's right at the cusp of a huge paradigm shift in culture/technology/world order.  If you study history, you see that there are definitely points at which huge shifts happened, and I think during the lead up to those shifts, that's when there was an uptick in the "end times" kind of talk.

I'm not a religious person.  I don't know anything about end times.  But I do believe we are on the cusp of a huge paradigm shift.  It's hard to say where it's going, but I think that a lot of the angst and polarization going on right now is because a lot of people feel that things are changing and there's a lot of uncertainty about where we are heading.  But none of this is necessarily end times in the religious sense.
