I am looking to make some changes in my diet. Weight loss is a goal, as is just generally being healthier. In addition, I've had some symptoms recently that make me worry about Type 2 diabetes. Obviously, I should go get tested, but I can't get an appointment for a couple weeks and I figure I might as well start something. I've lost weight before on moderate carb/moderate fat plans, both South Beach and Jenny Craig, but it wasn't sustainable. My biggest issue is that I work, a lot, and a diet that expects me to prepare lots of things, count lots of things, and stop and eat every couple hours, as both SB and Jenny Craig do, isn't going to work, and on a plan that's based on 6 small meals/snacks a day, as soon as I start skipping I'm starving. So, I'm thinking that I'll try lower carb, and eating fewer times a day. For the past few days, I've been doing the following: 1) Only eating a few times a day, not snacking in between. 2) Not eating any refined grains or potatoes or fruit other than berries, but also not really reading labels or looking for hidden things. So, for the 3 days so far, I've had: Day 1 Breakfast: string cheese, cashews Late lunch/early dinner: A salad with baby spinach, a bunch of vegetables, tuna salad, feta cheese and bacon Evening snack: raspberries Day 2 Breakfast: Cucumbers, and some turkey spread with goat cheese and rolled up. Dinner: Pulled pork, some baked beans, and a salad with corn, cucumbers, and tomatoes and a vinagrette dressing. Day 3 Breakfast: cheese, cashews Lunch: Sashimi, small salad with ginger dressing, a small amount of bulgogi Dinner: Rotisserie chicken, raw veggies with a little goat cheese, berries Does that sound reasonable? I should add that the portions are large. Like reading it you're probably thinking "that's not enough calories!" But actually, there were probably a lot of calories, because I ate a lot. I haven't been hungry. Will cutting carbs help, even if I don't make it to whatever cut off the Atkins people suggest?
