Thoughts? I like this a lot better then adding another agency to the city to review data OSSE was supposed to review. If they looked at all aspects of our current system, maybe their recommendations might bring real change and/or reform.

I'd be especially curious to see if they thought a real elected School Board should return as oversight in conjunction with replacing the Charter Board. it would be nice to put the entire District's educational landscape under an elected body rather than Mayor Appointees. [/quote]

I taught in DCPS in 04-05 before mayoral control. We went the first 11 weeks without paychecks. Schools didn't open on time. Let's not glorify the good ole days of an elected school board, please.[/quote]

OK, but the city's changed a hell of a lot in the last 15 years.  The current system relies too much on Mayoral expertise, which may not be there, and an effective chancellor, which we may not have (we may not even have any permanent chancellor).  The right political balance hasn't been struck.[/quote]
