No it’s a Christian tradition, not mentioned in the scripture but has biblical roots. That pagan business  is a bunch of malarkey created by conservative Protestants to scare people. It isn’t pagan, especially if those observing it aren’t pagan. [/quote]

Are you asking for evidence that Jesus spent 40 days and nights fasting in the desert, or evidence that early Christians in Biblical times observed Lent in the exact same way we observe Lent now?

There's no doubt that the Bible describes the former, and no doubt that Christian practice has evolved over time.  All branches of Christianity have practices and traditions that have changed since Biblical time, and that incorporate cultural practices that may have predated Christianity in that culture.  That doesn't mean that the practices are pagan or unbiblical.  Something that is done by Christians, who have come together in the name of Jesus, is a Christian practice, even if it's similar to a practice in another religion.  [/quote]
