I think at max it's about 10:1. It sound like overwhelming odds but every year I know a lot of kids who get in from our local public. They're bright and nice kids but not out-of-the-norm brilliant or impressive.
That odds would make these school on par with selective colleges! I don't think so. Potomac is about 35% - 40% acceptance, Sidwell probably around 20-25%. Before any Potomac parents out there start throwing a fit, reason for the higher percentage is because historically Potomac's yield is not as high as Sidwell's (or the GDS, NCS/STA bunch). Potomac, as much as it wants to be, just does not have as much name recognition as Sidwell. Not a reflection that it is a bad school, so calm down. From my experience dealing with families from all different private schools in the DMV, Potomac families, by far, have the largest chip on their shoulders.
Its all relative, OP as I would say the laregst chip can routinely be found on the GDS shoulders. -Cathedral parent
And we can all say that the parents who make statements such as these are those I hope are not at my school. :)
