Yes, of course I know why we all overeat, (mental, abundance, advertising, feeling stressed, etc...)but I am hoping to start a discussion about how much should an average human eat, how many calories per day. I think we are almost all(in the country) overeating by a lot, probably taking in 2 to 4 times more calories per day than we actually need. Recently I gave fasting a try. I recently did a 36 hour fast. After the initial morning hunger, that dissipated, I was not hungry. That was a surprise to me. I meant to do 24 hour fast, but I was not hungry after 24 hours and it turned into 36 hours. Next morning, I was not hungry, nor feeling faint, in fact, I felt great. So, why are we all eating so much? I noticed that I often eat not out of hunger, but because of psychological need. So, I am starting to believe that most humans do not need around 2000 calories per day, not anymore. I felt better when fasting than in a long time, why? And then, why the next day, all I want to do it eat? I am not hungry, but I end up eating.
Our bodies can fast (although I do not believe it is healthier than eating regular meals) and then after fasting it is normal to eat, to want to eat. I think the issue is not that people eat too many calories, I think the issue is that people are too sedentary. Office jobs, desk jobs, may pay well but they are unhealthy. Some of the most unhealthy people are truckers, who are forced by their job to sit for many hours and not get up. People who move a lot and eat a lot are much healthier than people who don't move a lot and don't eat a lot.
