They confide in me what's going on in their life. I am amazed sometimes at how heavy it is and how they manage to come to school and care at all with all that going on.

They make coming to work fun and enjoyable. Every morning I am happy to see them. I celebrate their successes with them and nurse worry and concern for them. I listen for their names on the birthday list on the announcements and tell them happy birthday next time I see them. I remind them to be kind but I don't admonish them when they curse.

They talk about you sometimes. There is a lot of angst surrounding dads, which weighs on me. They revere their mothers. They joke about you too, about  the way moms can be, but the underlying current of affection is always there.

You're doing a good job. I have little kids and teaching your big ones gives me a lot of appreciation for what you have to navigate and deal with. I hope you know they are good kids. I think they're going to be terrific adults. They are a joy to teach. Please enjoy them over the break - I can't wait to hear what they did when they come back to school. [/quote]
