I don't know where you live or how you are planning to use it but if child is out of control I'd try to get them hospitalized not CHINS. CHINS is child in need of assistance and its either through child welfare or through juvenile justice. If they are under court order, it generally takes away your parental rights and decision making and they place the child in a group home or foster home or something (most are pretty horrible places) and usually they will come after you to pay for it/child support. I'm sorry you are going through this but find another way vs. involving the system. For some parents, especially if their health insurance will not pay for treatment, its their only option but if you have any other option, use it. ARC would not make sense in your situation.
Thank you! That makes sense
Be very careful with school counselors. They try to be helpful but have no clue how the system works. Once you sign over, you have very few rights and it will be a nightmare getting your kid out. You lose all decision making. They could send your kid to a treatment facility cross country and drug them with drugs you don't agree with and you have absolutely no say. Do not do this. Start with a neuropsych - lots of recommendations on here and try to figure out what is going on. Often mental health issues can start when kids are early to mid teens and are often overlooked.
I don't think her kid is in a position for testing at the moment. NAMI or ARC will have resources to help you. Please call your local chapter.
Probably not for testing but most of those resources are pretty useless. They are better off calling the crisis center in their county or doing their own hospitalization like a PP suggested vs. doing CHINS. CHINS is basically you giving all control to the government and you are stripped of your parental rights.
