I keep seeing this criticism and I think it's incredibly short-sighted. Rick and his group don't need all of the Saviors dead, they just need Negan dead; ideally the surviving Saviors would then agree to peace with the other communities and the war could end there. They don't want to expend the resources killing all of them, they don't want the risk to their own communities of an on-going enemy after they kill Negan, and they just don't want to kill people needlessly. Giving Negan's lieutenants an out wasn't about expecting them to surrender at the beginning, there's too much risk to them then that Negan will win and they will all be punished/killed for it. Yes, but Negan was standing - basically on a stage - with no protection.  Someone should have just shot Negan dead right then and there.  I think THAT's the biggest criticism everyone has.  It's not about shooting all the Saviors dead but about shooting Negan when he's basically standing unprotected in front of hundreds of enemies (who are protected behind those metal things).

It's crazy, but I get it for the story-line.  I'm really curious how Rick et. al. will rise up, but still have Negan in the series.  As much as I hate him, I LOVE him being on the show.  He does such a great job and it would really hurt the show if he was killed off.  So, that being said, I get why the writers didn't have Rick just shoot Negan right then, but for "real life" type situations, he should have just shot him dead right there.[/quote]

Rick took a shot at him while he was standing on the stage unprotected but missed. Why do you assume the result would have been the same if he'd taken the shot two minutes earlier?[/quote]
