Hunh? Not sure how you're getting that from the article but DCPS gets FBI background checks on all hires (not just teachers). No convicted abuser would get hired by a district that conducts FBI background checks, who do you think is populating these offender registries? [/quote]

Please read the post and the article carefully.  The post does not say DCPS does not do background checks on hires.  It says DCPCS (that's charter schools) are not required to do so. [/quote]

And to clarify, DCPCS does not use the national database, not that they don't use background checks.  But the article also goes into how abusers can still slip through the cracks with background checks.[/quote]

To further clarify, each charter school must do it themselves. Some do it more frequently than others (e.g. not just when initially hiring). [/quote]
