[quote=Anonymous]In light of recent findings about the perils of sitting too much and those perils NOT being offset by exercise (see article link below) I am wondering how many people here, or people you know or see at the workplace actually have a way of getting up every 30 minutes to break the sitting streak. I work from him and am moving constantly, but my husband sits at his IT desk job all day long. He claims he gets up to go to the bathroom but of course not eveyr 30 minutes. Unhelpfully, there does not seem to be a clear guideline yet as to how much moving around every 30 minutes would be enough. One or two minutes? In addition to it potentially being intrusive to concentration, there is the discipline issue involved, the reminder system to enforce said discipline, and the willingness to be That Guy That Gets Up Every 30 Minutes Because His New Wife Is Worried About Losing Him. Obviously as we learn more about the health risks of sitting too much, there will have to be a concomitant change in workplace culture if we want to broadly assist people in delaying an early death. I do have a friend at State Department who has a co-worker who has a standing cycling or pedaling desk. Not sure what she had to do to get that; could be an accommodation for her based on some health risks, but she appears very fit and healthy. Arguably, wanting to delay early death should not fall into anything requiring a special accommodation.
