WhaI IBET Group did your kid get? I think they mix the teachers them up, so they are pretty even. Each one was a reallytrong teacher and a weak on. Last year, my kid was Del Cerro IBET, and a very mixed bag. One teacher who was a full quarter behind in grading and did not teach. Some thing just never got graded. Very frustrating to look in SIS a few days before the end of the quarter and have no grades posted. My kid magically got an A- for the year, with points randoming appearing at the end which him up. Who knows? He didn't complain. One teacher who was very tough from the get go, and he had a D+ faster the first month. Mostly from quizzes, so not many points overall. He got better and figured out what the teacher was looking for. Once some "big" tests and projects were done, the grades came up. Ended up with a strong grade and this was his favorite teacher. One teacher who was great at teaching (I thought-- teacher taught my major area from college), and my kid learned a lot. But assigned the teacher big projects without ruberics, which caused problems. I think she like my kid because my kid loved the class, and she gavechances to redo major assignments for full points. So-- a mixed bag. The kids say fewer than five kids left last year during school. More likely for kids to finish the year and decide not to come back. I have not heard, with all the carpool running I do with kids from different IBETS, about a "bad IBT". I do know, for my kid at least, grades came up a lot after 1st quarter. So, don't panic if grades start out low on the first couple of assignments. For us, 1st quarter was a B- Bio, A- DT, B- English. Ended up with a B+ A-, A. Since DC is not aiming to be top 10%, we were very pleased. As in CS, Language, PE and high Bs in math-- and that looks like a successful year to me. To the Stanford or Bust crowd-- maybe not. Butt-- if you name your IBET, people will chime in. But I think the "terrible IBET that makes kids quit is like the 3rd floor swimming pool-- a myth.
