There was a HUGE screw up with my PGS testing results. It's been two weeks since my clinic did my biopsy for PGS testing. I e-mailed my nurse and asked, based on when the biopsy was sent out, when I should expect to receive the results. She said I should expect to receive them either last Friday or today (Monday). I checked in last Friday - no word. I checked in today - they said they still hadn't received them. I thought that was odd, so I called the lab that does the PGS testing. The lab said they NEVER RECEIVED the biopsy from my clinic! I thought there must be a misunderstanding, but she seemed pretty sure. So, of course, I called the clinic, and explained the situation, and asked to speak to my doctor or nurse ASAP. I was told they were both busy, but they would send a message to them both to call me back. I didn't hear from them. I e-mailed my nurse and another nurse, explaining the situation, and asking them to call me back and let me know what was going on. No response. After an hour and 15 minutes, I called back, and was told everyone was too busy to speak to me, but someone would look into it and get back to me. I demanded to speak to someone at that point because the office was going to close in 45 minutes and I wanted it handled TODAY. Seems reasonable, given that it was a major screw up on their part. Also, I'm on birth control and supposed to start the FET shots on Thursday, and order the meds by Wed at the latest (my insurance only covers mail-order meds). Finally, they connected me to someone. I asked if the biopsy had been sent out two weeks ago. She said NO. They realized they had never sent it out, so they just sent it out now. They said I should receive the results in two weeks. They said they could put me on birth control until then. I said I'm already on birth control, and I need to find out the results before then because I need to start the meds for the FET on Thursday, or if there isn't a PGS normal embryo to transfer, then I need to start a new egg retrieval cycle at that time. They hadn't even thought to check with the lab if they could expedite the results. I told them that the lab had said that it could turn around results overnight, and asked them to looking into expediting it. Long story slightly shorter, after multiple calls to the clinic and the lab, they are going to expedite the results at their expense (only after I specifically requested this), and I'll get the results in two days, which gives me just enough time to order the meds to be delivered the following day, which is the day I start them - if there is a PGS normal embryo, which is, of course, uncertain. Cross your fingers for a normal and no issues with the delivery of the meds. I would love to change clinics, but that would cause more delay. So, I will probably request a new nurse/doctor at the same clinic once this round is over. So frustrating. Moral of the story: Be your own advocate. If I hadn't called the lab when two weeks were up, I'd STILL be waiting for the results for a biopsy that was never sent over.
It's extremely frustrating how you have to spend so much time advocating for yourself, but you do. Sgf messed up my insurance approval and I had to fight big time to have them submit the correct information.
