I believe they have committed to doing the two weeks at Christmas, so my guess is that the holiday would run from December 22, 2018 to Jan 6, 2019, but I wouldn't buy tickets based on that...
No way. When they do two weeks, it still always ends on January 1st with us coming back January 2nd (unless that's a weekend). It's the start date of the break that varies. I'd predict a break start of no later than 12/19 with a good possibility of them making 12/14 the last day before break. Considering that the break this year starts stupid early (12/15 last day of school before break) I wouldn't be surprised if thist trend continues since no one seems to have made the connection between these excessively long breaks and our late June dismissal.
Instead of rolling your eyes, how about you look at an actual calendar. We're getting a full 2-week winter break, plus Mon, Jan 1 AND school is finished on June 15, 2018. This FCPS employee and parent LOVES the 2-week break in December.
Did YOU look at a calendar? We're getting out earlier because we're starting a week before labor day. You missed my point entirely. We used to have a post labor day start, a winter break that varied depending on when Christmas fell, and we'd get out mid June. Then they instituted the standard two week Christmas break which pushed us later into June for our last day. Then, everyone sat around complaining about how awful it was that FCPS went so late in June without ever acknowledging that the reason for that was the now excessively long winter breaks. This FCPS employee and parent would prefer to return to the post labor day start, shorter break, and earlier June dismissal.
The 2 week winter break is not the problem with the calendar. There's no reason to go so far into June. All the extra teacher workdays that are quasi-snow days are ridiculous. I'd rather have the old calendar with half-day Mondays that was shorter.
I agree. The Chesterfield calendar I posted earlier starts after Labor Day and ended on the 16th. They have a 2 week winter break and three full days at Thanksgiving which I think is nice.
