I'm a grown up who was medicated as a child. I personally think it was criminal that I was medicated - frankly I think it was the turmoil in my house that made it difficult to concentrate not a medical issue. But they diagnosed me with ADHD and as a result, I can barely remember my childhood at all. My memories only really begin when I quit taking it as a young adult. Funny, it's supposed to be genetic but my kids concentrate just fine.
    just because there is a genetic link or someone in your family has/had it does not mean you'll also have it!! if that were the case my DD would have ADHD, just like my DS. also, my DS cannot learn without his medication - but I am not blaming ADHD on this one. I'm blaming our educational system here in the US. We have it all wrong with respect to how to administer instruction to our kids, how to design the classroom, how much or how little outside time they get, the exams they have to take etc. it is all wrong.
PP here - I have five. You'd think if there was a genetic component one of the children would have symptoms, would you not? But they are all doing really well. Anyways, that is besides the point - the point is that like the other poster wrote, my personality was completely altered by 10+ years on amphetamines.
