Seriously, think about having one in the house and not knowing how to use it.  The number of children every day that accidentally get shot everyday from unsecured guns.  It's more than going to the store and getting one, but being a responsible and well trained gun user.

Most of the weapons sold at gun shows are by licensed firearm dealers, which still require a background check.  The real loophole is in private party sales.  If you buy a gun from a private party on Craigslist, for example, they don't have to do a background check on you.   Here is what VA law says about this:

Va. Code Ann. § 18.2-308.2:1: It is a felony to knowingly transfer firearms to someone who is prohibited under state law, including those younger than 18 and non-citizens of the U.S.

Va. Code Ann. § 54.1-4201.2: State Police must be available at gun shows to conduct voluntary background checks for private firearms transfers. [/quote]
