[/quote] I personally wouldn't, no. Not knowing my kids, and not knowing Columbia, and a huge number of USC grads. But that's a YMMV thing. You're right it does well academically in some areas. I would not send any kid there for engineering. In the South, I would send a kid NC State, Clemson, GA Tech (where OPs kid won't get in if they were nixed by VT), Vanderbilt, Auburn, maybe Wake for biomedical only, maybe LsU-- and I am probably missing a couple.
