I don't think they'll close to be honest. I could be wrong, and I do have childcare in place in case they do. But unlike a snow day, where you wake up to 3 inches, this could have been called earlier today. This is a ridiculous "strike" b/c it will amount to nothing first of all, and second, who takes leave to strike? Plus, those who have opted out tomorrow are only making it inconvenient for colleagues who are there to do their jobs. Losing a day of instruction is bad enough on snow days, especially for needy kids, bur to purposely leave your job for this "fight" is inexcusable.
YOU ARE WRONG. Check Washingtonpost.com for the article. Thirty percent of transportation workers have called out.
And that means they'll find subs for the bus drivers. They have them across the board - in both professional and supporting services. They won't call off the day. They said today on the news that MCPS was open. It's doubtful - VERY doubtful - they'll close. It's easier to babysit combined classes than to inconvenience parents. The day will be lost. Kids will skip. But it will be called an instructional day nonetheless.
