While my boss was very complementary he basically said that for people not on contract you need to go get an offer from another organization which you can then use to negotiate a higher salary here. I was pretty taken aback by that.  It really put me off that a raise wouldn't be based on my actual work product which he had just deemed excellent.

I am not sure what to do here. We have a good relationship so I feel I can discuss this further with him. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to navigate?  I could go look for another job (and maybe should) but that would be time consuming and take away from my current productivity. Thoughts?[/quote]
