If already in 6th grade then BASIS is not an option (the school will not accept any students past 6th grade due to their curriculum requirements in 5th and 6th grade) and Latin is probably not an option since it is in such high demand. Even BASIS is tough to get into for 6th grade, but there is a much better chance to gain a spot there than compared to Latin. BTW, 2-3 hours homework??? That is a bit of an exaggeration at least for 5th and 6th grade. 1 - 2 hours homework is more likely to be the average and really closer to 1 hour as the student improves his/her time management.
