You don't have to change the code until they age out, but my guess is that they will pressure you too. To be honest, if your kid has multiple diagnoses like mine affecting speech, motor, and academics, they will probably want to give you the autism label. My kid isn't actually on the spectrum, but I'm just looking for a meaningful IEP. The IEP code isn't a medical diagnosis. The handful of codes were devised 40 years ago by well intentioned legislators. Not perfect, but it is what it is. It's better than what existed b/f the passage of IDEA and FAPE b/c there was ZERO/ZIP/NADA. [/quote]
