There a ton (and I mean a ton) of people who purchased homes $800K+ who send their kids to our local public schools in the Olney/Ashton/Brookeville/Brinklow area.  It's not a "movin' on up" kind of situation here.  It's a choice people make to raise their kids in an area that still has that community feel.

Generalizations like yours make you look ignorant.

We are very happy with the schools.  There are no safety issues, and so far, the teachers have been receptive and on the ball.  I'm sorry if you think the world revolves around "closer in."  It's not everyone's style.[/quote]

You could not have hit the nail on the head any better.  We could have afforded a 700K-800K home in Rockville.  We CHOSE to buy a 625K home in Brookeville that was far bigger, far newer, and part of a place that retains a small-town feel while having the benefits of being reasonably close to Columbia, Rockville, Rio, and Bethesda.  And Sherwood has about 1/10 of the insanely overly-competitive unhealthiness of any of the W schools.  Trust me, we moved from a W cluster.[/quote]
