I was a colicky baby who had trouble sleeping for years, I have heard about this my entire life from my parents. I'm now a new parent to a colicky 5 month old and my parents are gleeful that this is happening to me. They call regularly to ask how many hours of uninterrupted sleep I've gotten and then laugh, say something about karma, and announce it's time for tennis at the retirement community. It was humorous the first few times but I am exhausted and losing it, I can't imagine being so resentful of my child that I delight in their misfortune 30 years from now. I think I need to stop taking their calls.
My mother repeated about a zillion times that I gave up my nap at 2. She was SUPER disappointed that none of my kids stopped napping that early. I stopped responding to the cracks, which, like the OP, eventually came to feel less like a little joke and more like bitterness directed at her misery as a young mother which she blamed on me not being a perfect child. I also had a colicky baby and children who are difficult in other ways. I do not ever complain to my mother.
